Fred Russell

Managing Director & CEO

Fred has more than 20 years of private equity experience, including nine years at Virginia Capital.  He has served as a director of a number of public and private companies, including seven current Virginia Capital portfolio companies.  He has invested in more than two dozen private companies and has closed more than three dozen follow-on acquisitions.  He has been an investor in three companies which subsequently completed their IPO and two other companies which filed to go public but decided to sell the business instead.  Fred has been active in the sale or IPO of more than 10 companies with a combined enterprise value of more than $750 million.

Fred has extensive experience in the following industries: health care services, media and communications, consumer services businesses, insurance and environmental services.

Fred has lectured on entrepreneurship and private capital markets at the Wharton School, the University of Virginia ’s McIntire School of Commerce, and the Darden Business School.

Fred was previously Senior Vice President and Partner with Allied Capital, a $1 billion private equity firm.  Fred was also a Managing Director in a health care services company which he helped to build into a $70 million revenue business.  He also worked for JP Morgan Chase.

Fred graduated from the University of Virginia and earned his M.B.A. from the Wharton School.
